Mental Health Parity: The Never-Ending Story
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) has been a hot topic lately in compliance news. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020 (CAA) included guidance establishing new compliance requirements for employers subject to MHPAEA. Join us as we provide an overview of the law’s requirements and discuss the CAA’s addition to MHPAEA compliance in the hopes that employers will better understand their mental health parity obligations.

Beth Allen, CEBS

Elizabeth joined NFP in June 2014. As part of the NFP Benefits Compliance team, Elizabeth advises employers and brokers on employee benefits compliance issues. Prior to joining NFP, Elizabeth spent five years as an investigator for the US Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration. As an investigator, she reviewed health and welfare and pension plans for compliance with ERISA, and she worked with employers, service providers, and other regulatory agencies to bring employee benefit plans into compliance. She also served as the Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program (VFCP) coordinator from 2012-2014. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts in government from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. She is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS).
Diane Cross
Vice President and Counsel, Benefits Compliance @NFP
Diane joined NFP in 2019 to educate, consult, and problem-solve on issues related to health and welfare benefits. Most recently, Diane advised employers on matters related to employee benefits compliance for a regional insurance brokerage, helping employers achieve and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal laws. She has experience consulting on issues related to ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, Section 125, PPACA, among other regulations, as well as advising on rules related to HSAs, FSAs, HRAs, and other matters impacting employee benefits administration. Diane earned her Bachelor of Science from Butler University and her Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. She is a member of the Indiana bar.
